Robert Plowman was the first volunteer under the Bush Mission scheme inaugurated by the Presbyterian Church; he worked as a missionary in Central Australia from 1912 to 1917. The papers comprise the letters he wrote to his mother and to his future wife, also articles and novels based on his experiences in Central Australia, photographs and newspaper extracts.
