Summary

Records from 1795. The Missionary Society was founded in 1795 by a group of Anglican and Non-conformist clergy in London. Later re-named the London Missionary Society, the organization pioneered mission work in many parts of the world, including Australia, the East Indies, New Guinea and the Pacific. Records are extensive and in the National Library include copies of the Society's Archival material microfilmed by the Australian Joint Copying Project, Samoan missionary records copied by the Pacific Manuscripts Bureau, and also L.M.S. manuscripts held in the Nan Kivell Collection. Material includes journals and diaries, correspondence, minutes of meetings, reports, registers, lectures, printed and pictorial records, personal papers some of which relate to north Australia and the Torres Straits.
