Summary
Papers, 1842-1846. Edwin Porcher joined H.M.S. Fly in England for four years service involving hydrographic surveys in Queensland and New Guinea waters, under Captain F.P. Blackwood. Porcher remained in the British government service to 1872, mainly with the navy; he left a written and artistic record of his career, and also a published historical work concerning Cyrene in the Middle East. Official logs of H.M.S. Prince George and H.M.S. Fly, October 1844-June 1846, one volume. Private Journal of E.A. Porcher, 1841-1844, one volume. Official appointment as mate of H.M.S. Fly, April 1846. Unbound extract from an exercise book, giving the dimensions of H.M.S.
