Summary

British marine painter who accompanied Captain Owen Stanley on H.M.S. Rattlesnake on a survey voyage in north Australian and New Guinea waters. Brierly completed a number of sketches during the period April-November 1848 while travelling along the east coast of Australia; these Include pencil, ink and watercolour.
