Summary
A notable collection of nineteenth century photographs contained in two volumes:
1. A major section relates to North Queensland sugar plantations. Pacific Islander and Aboriginal labour and European settlement at Mackay; includes views of Te-Kowai Mill, River Estate and Pioneer Mill. Also mining views including scenes of Mount Britton diggings, scenes of Cooktown. Handwritten index at back. ca. 72 prints.
2. Final section on sugar industry: Mackay residences and workers' housing, sugar plantations and crushing mills including Alexandra Sugar Mill, river scenes, church buildings. A section depicting Western Queensland scenes, including Aramac, Alice River, Bowen Downs, Clermont, Issac River, Logan Downs, Nebo, Oxford Downs, Tambo and Wolfang, scenes of townships, Aborigines, Native Police, pastoral life, schools.
