Summary

Autobiography and parodies. Arrived in Australia 1862, and after initial service with the Union Bank in Brisbane, joined the government service holding various regional posts including commissioner for Crown Lands and land agent. Was appointed police magistrate at Somerset in the absence of Frank Jardine 1869-1870; Chester remained in the area and resumed this post in 1875. In 1883 he was instrumental in the Queensland annexation of a portion of New Guinea. The records include a description and brief history of settlement at Somerset, with details of Chester's work amongst the Gadang, Yardigan and Korrarego Aborigines, pp.39.
