Summary

Letter 1861. Scottish born pastoralist and civil servant, John Jardine became Police Magistrate and Gold Commissioner at Rockhampton in 1861. He served as Government Resident at Somerset from 1863-1865 and his sons Frank and Alexander made a spectacular expedition from Rockhampton to Somerset with cattle in 1864-1866. John Jardine returned to his former position in Rockhampton in 1865, where he died in 1874.
