Summary
Letter 1861. Scottish born pastoralist and civil servant, John Jardine became Police Magistrate and Gold Commissioner at Rockhampton in 1861. He served as Government Resident at Somerset from 1863-1865 and his sons Frank and Alexander made a spectacular expedition from Rockhampton to Somerset with cattle in 1864-1866. John Jardine returned to his former position in Rockhampton in 1865, where he died in 1874. Letter, John Jardine, Police Magistrate for Rockhampton to Governor Bowen, 23 October 1861, reporting the murder by Aborigines of Mr Wills and nine others at Cullin-la-Ringo Station via Springsure.
