Summary
Papers 1870-1879; 1959-1962. Arthur Neame and his brother Frank arrived in Australia from England in June 1870; after a period spent on station properties at Jondaryan and Roma, they went to north Queensland in 1871. The brothers acquired land on the Herbert River where they established the Macknade sugar plantation, named after the family home, Macknade Manor in Kent. The plantation was sold in 1882 however the transaction failed and Arthur Neame who had gone to England, returned to Macknade with his family in 1888. He made several trips from the colony to England, where he finally settled when Macknade was conclusively sold to C.S.R. in 1897. The papers are as follows:
