Summary

Diary extracts, 1862-1895. Born in Scotland, William Pettigrew came to Queensland in 1849 where he entered the timber milling industry. From 1862-1866 and 1869-1885 he was an alderman on the Brisbane Municipal Council and served as mayor 1870-1871. During the 1860s he extended his business interests to Bowen and in 1865 stood unsuccessfully for the seat of Kennedy. He was a member of the Legislative Council from 1877 to 1894, and died in Bowen in 1906. Selected diary extracts, 18 August 1862-25 October 1895, photocopy, pp.10. Oxley: O.M.72-69.
