Summary

Diary and miscellaneous papers. Trained as an accountant, William Gall served in the public service from 1885; he was Assistant Under Secretary from 1910 and Under Secretary from 1913-1931. In 1891, he was sent to central Queensland in connection with the Shearer's strike and was later administrator of accountancy matters concerning the Queensland contingent in the South African war. The The Fryer Library, University of Queensland holds a large collection of the Gall papers, including correspondence from throughout Queensland, manuscripts and newspaper extracts on the subject of local history and politics. Diary, 1916. Entries: 3-28 March, covers Rockhampton political convention, party members consider dropping Fihelly and Theodore from the ministry. Continuing incidents from the convention. 30 May-2 June, visit to Thursday Island, York Island, political comments. 4 September conscription discussed by Caucus, John Adamson asked to resign from the Recruiting Committee, labour award made in the Queensland sugar industry.
