Scottish born railway engineer, George Henderson worked in South Africa and Australia, including a considerable period in central and northern Queensland, which involved the Blackall line, Hughenden to Winton, and Mt Garnet lines, the Fitzroy railway bridge, and section 2 of the Gladstone to Rockhampton line. 'Reminiscences of railway construction and public works carried out in South Africa and Australia from 1882 to 1916', interspersed with details of his engineering work are comments on the social and political affairs of the day.
