Summary

Personal and academic papers. Alexander Melbourne was associate professor of History at the University of Queensland from 1934 until his death in 1942. He also served on a number of advisory committees on Asian trade during this period. The collection includes manuscripts, lectures, minutes of meetings and reports, correspondence, memos and notes, newspaper extracts, papers relating to staff applications and appointments. Also included are manuscripts galley proofs, articles and newspaper extracts on Queensland history, written during 1926-1927. Subjects include the annexation of New Guinea, settlement of Somerset, early immigration policy, the financial crisis of 1866 and a paper entitled 'Unwanted Governors'. Three feet three inches.
