Summary

Miscellaneous records. Captain, later Admiral King was the son of Governor Phillip Gidley King; he joined the Royal Navy and carried out hydrographic surveys of the Australian coastline, including Queensland where be was engaged in the period 1818-1822, on H.M.S. Mermaid and then with H.M.S. Bathurst. He was later involved in survey work in South American waters in H.M.S. Adventure and H.M.S. Beagle, before he returned to Australia in 1832, where he took on a managerial post with the Australian Agricultural Company.
