Summary

Correspondence, 1885-1888. De Satge arrived in Melbourne from England in 1853, accompanied by his brother Ernest. He managed station properties in the central Queensland region from the 1850s and later owned several properties, including Peak Downs and Wolfang near Clermont, and Augustus Downs, Carandotta and Georgina River in tar western Queensland. He entered politics, and was M.L.A. for Clermont 1869-1872, Normanby 1873-1877, and Mitchell 1881-1882. De Satge retired to England in 1884. His autobiographical Pages from the Journal of a Queensland Squatter was published in London in 1901. Letter book, 1 December 1885-16 January 1888. Contains letters from England to his business associates in Sydney and Queensland, chiefly relating to Carandotta, and Springvale and also other station holdings. MITCHELL: ML.MSS.133.
