Summary
Autobiography, 1955. John Fletcher worked for the Queensland Meat Export Company of Ross River, Townsville from 1908, and was bookkeeper for the company cattle stations in the Gulf of Carpentaria region, and later Q.M.E. Co. secretary. In 1910 he formed a partnerhsip to establish the Torres Creek Meat Export Company, which operated to 1916. Fletcher served on the Commission to Investigate Northern Territory Development Possibilities in 1937 and on the Royal Commission on Abattoirs and Meatworks in Queensland in 1946; he was a member of the board of the Commonwealth Bank 1951-1952, and general manager of the Gladstone Meatworks from 1917.
