Summary

Papers 1847-1872, with papers of his brother Sir Augustus Charles Gregory 1831-1905, and other papers ca.1848. English born surveyor and explorer, Francis Gregory arrived in Western Australia in 1829. He became a staff surveyor in 1849 and carried out important survey and exploratory work throughout Western Australia, and was a member of his brother's North Australian expedition to Queensland in 1855-1856. Francis Gregory settled in Brisbane in 1862, he became Commissioner for Crown Lands for the Darling Downs and was a Member of the Legislative Council from 1874 until his death in 1888.

E. Journals kept during the North Australian Expedition, 1856-1857. Comprises journal of James Spottiswood Wilson, geologist, and Joseph Ravenscroft Elsey, surgeon of the expedition, diary of J.S. Wilson and meteorological journal of James Flood, collector and preserver.
