Log of the barque Nautilus, 16 November 1887-15 April 1888. J.E. Hawkins master of the barque Nautilus sailed from Port Mackay, 16 November 1887, to repatriate Pacific Islanders mainly to the New Hebrides, and to recruit labour for the Colonial Sugar Refining Co. Ltd. He returned to Mackay 16 April 1888 with 40 recruits. The log refers to the difficulty of securing recruits, and to the supervisory action of the Queensland Government agent on board. 1 X 2' box. MITCHELL: ML.MSS.2842.
