Documents. In the State Archives at the Hague, relating to early voyages of exploration to Australia and New Guinea, 1608-1756, and to the East India Co. Includes: Journal of the voyage of the Pera and the Arnhem to the west coast of Cape York Peninsula, in 1623, photocopies of manuscripts and charts, contents list available, 13 volumes. The Pera under Jan Cartensz and the Arnhem under Willem van Coolsteerdt sailed from New Guinea waters west through Torres Strait and into the Gulf of Carpentaria charting the west coast of Cape York Peninsula to approximately the Staaten River. Here the captains parted company, van Coolsteerdt returning to Ambon via Arnhem Land, which he named, whilst the Pera retraced its passage along the eastern shore of the Gulf of Carpentaria, sailing thence to the East Indies.
