Party: Rockhampton Workers' Political Organization

Summary

Records 1906-1910. Branches of the organization were established throughout Queensland following the shearers' strike of 1891, and were variously based on principles laid down by the Australian Labor Federation. Their formation signified an altered strategy by the Labor movement. Future action was to be taken through the parliamentary process rather than by direct action. The R.W.P.O. nominated and supported candidates to contest federal and state elections. At Rockhampton, the minutes show strong support coming from the meat workers. Minutes of meetings, November 1906-March 1910. 2 cm, inventory available. W.U.A.: D.87.
