William Eugene Finucane, 1844-1927, born at the British Garrison on Corfu, came to Queensland in 1865 at the invitation of Sir George Ferguson Bowen, where he entered government service. He worked with the Department of Lands in Normanton and Burketown before being transferred to the Brisbane office. He later joined the Police Department and played a prominent role during the Queensland Shearers' Strikes of 1891 and 1894. He was later involved with immigration and trade promotion for Queensland in southern Europe. He died in Melbourne in 1927. Cutting book. Entitled: Pioneer W. Finucane.
