Summary
Not catalogued or shelved. Records of the Charters Towers legal firm Marsland and Marsland, which practised from the nineteenth century. Documents date from the 1860s, and relate to Charters Towers and surrounding pastoral properties, with lesser emphasis on the centres of Bowen, Ingham, Innisfail, Hughenden, Townsville, Winton and townships in the gulf. Also includes correspondence with legal firms in Brisbane, Sydney, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and France. A 30 year access restriction applies to all documents and intending researchers must first gain access approval from the Head of the Department of History. Records cover:
Land: Deeds of Grant, G.F.H.L's, M.H.L.'s etc.
Companies: Articles of Association, deeds of incorporation etc.
Personal papers: Wills, agreements, probates, deeds of separation and adoption, pre and post nuptial settlements, birth, marriage and death certificates, deeds of gift.
Business papers: (often associated with pastoral companies), deeds of covenant, release and indemnity, powers of attorney, agistment agreements, partnership and apprenticeship
