Summary

Items: six boxes, two volumes. Shelf Location: 73L-75L. The partnership of James Clark and Reg Hocking, established in 1898, was involved in the pearl diving industry based on Thursday Island. Operations halted in 1905 when the fleets transferred to the Am Islands, however Hocking returned to Thursday Island in 1908 to found the Wanetta Pearling Company, named after the mother ship of his pearling luggers, the schooner Wanetta. On the death of Reg Hocking in 1930 the company was taken over by his nephews Norman and Frank. After extensive damage to the fleet during the Second World War, it was rebuilt and the company was renamed H.O. & R.N. Hocking Pty. This company became defunct on the death of Norman Hocking in 1969.
