Biographical entry: Scott, Arthur

Summary

Correspondence and papers, 1862-1892. Correspondence of Arthur, Charles and Walter Scott with their family in England and business associates in their pastoral enterprise the Valley of Lagoons also financial review and summary statement of the venture, and maps. The Valley of Lagoons on the Upper Burdekin was taken up in 1861, and was developed by a partnership of George Elphinstone Dalrymple, the first Queensland Premier, Robert Herbert, and friends of the latter, Arthur, Charles and Walter Scott. The Scott brothers arrived in the colony in 1862 to assume management of the Valley of Lagoons. The enterprise was not successful: Dalrymple withdrew in 1864 and Herbert in 1867, the last remaining member of the partnership, Walter Scott continued in a vain attempt to recoup a large debt, until his death at the station in 1890. 1 reel, 35 mm microfilm, MF FU94.
