Summary

12 framed and hung enlargements of historical views of Townsville, 1867-1920; printed guides are duplicated in the Delamothe Photograph Collection. 7 albums of mixed photographs, relating primarily to north Queensland. They include a collection of portraits of 19th century north Queensland identities, scenes of early Cooktown and the Palmer River hinterland, also Mossman, Port Douglas, Chillagoe, Mount Mulligan, Townsville and Mackay. Subjects include mining, railways, sugar farming and sugar mills, colonial architecture and the native police. There are also 2 albums of photographs relating to Pacific Islanders in Queensland, dating from the 19th century. A collection of some 600 colour transparencies of archeological subjects, taken by Helen Brayshaw in the course of research for her PhD thesis: Aboriginal Material Culture in the Herbert-Burdekin District of Queensland, 1977.
