Charters Towers Municipality established 1877; became Charters Towers Town Council in 1903, and Charters Towers City Council in 1909. Council holdings include records of the Queenton Shire Council and the Charters Towers Fire Brigade. Queenton Shire Council was established in 1902, was abolished, and included in Charters Towers City in 1916.

COUNCIL MEETING ROOM
Photographs, 31 framed portraits of mayors who have held office from 1877-present, are hung in the Council Meeting room; the Council also holds a large collection of historical photographs relating to Charters Towers and district, dating from the 1870s. Both photograph collections have been copied for the Delamothe Collection of North Queensland History.
HORTICULTURAL HALL BASEMENT
A large quantity of unsorted records are stored beneath the building; some have been water damaged. A summary coverage only was possible of this collection, which comprised paper files, some 350 volumes and also photographs.
