Summary
The Cairns Divisional Board was established in 1879, it became the Cairns Shire in 1903 and the name was changed to Mulgrave Shire in 1940. The Shire covers a rectangular area extending from beyond Cairns City to just south of the Russell River, including Gordonvale and Babinda.
