Summary

The office is the administrative centre for the Burdekin River Irrigation Project, a community irrigation development commenced in 1949, as Stage I of the Burdekin Irrigation Hydro-Electric and Flood Mitigation Project. The scheme includes three main sections: Clare, Millaroo and Dalbeg. The Claredale office is administered by offices of the Queensland Water Resources Commission in Townsville and Brisbane. With the exception of occasional correspondence and administrative files all records held in the Claredale office date from 1961; they cover all aspects of the Project and include: General administrative records including numerous reports, correspondence, finance and revenue files, records regarding plant, workshop, buildings, stores, staff and employees, and industrial matters. Records covering varied aspects of operation and maintenance of numerous schemes within the Project, also records of Irrigation Advisory Services, including Water Advisory Boards, and files regarding land openings within the project area.

Records of other Queensland schemes associated with the Water Resources Commission are also held, these include: Collinsville Pump Station and pipeline, Eungella Dam, Birralee Irrigation Project, Bluewater Proclaimed Area, Ross River Dam Site, Investigations, Goonyella Mining Project Water Supply, Underground Water Investigations (Burdekin Delta, Lower Burdekin, Haughton River, Don, Herbert, Flinders and Pioneer Rivers), Basic Investigations, (Don, Burdekin, Gregory, Herbert, Haughton, Pioneer, Proserpine, Ross and Tully).
