The North Queensland Registry office was established in Townsville under the Real Properties Act of 1887. The office holds records of all deeds of grant and certificates of freehold land titles, in the dead and live documents file, relating to the Northern District. This District extends from Sarina to Cape York, and west to the Northern Territory border. The records include associated documents and survey plans, and provide a history of all holdings, regarding changes of ownership, sales, prices etc. Volume 1 dates from January 1889, and over 1,000 volumes are held; indexes of parishes and registered proprietors are available. A search fee is payable for all research inquiries.
