Summary

The Fanning River lease was originally taken up by Robert Towns in 1861, it passed to the Oriental Bank, and was then abandoned for a period, until the late 1870s when it was taken up by Mr Henry Abbott. The property remained in the hands of the Abbott family until well into the twentieth century; in the 1930s it passed to Mr H.M. Clarke MBE, former chairman of the Dalrymple Shire, who continues to run the station. Mr Clarke holds the following records at Fanning River:
