Summary

The mill is situated 13 kilometres to the north west of Mackay; local crushing began in the 1860s, however the actual Farleigh mill was constructed in 1883 by Sir John Bennett Lawes The mill was sold in 1900 to the Farleigh Estate Sugar Co LTD, of Bundaberg. In 1926, that company went into liquidation and local growers purchased the mill and have since operated it as a co-operative. Records stored in the old administrative building were inaccessible during this survey. Summary details of holding in the old and new offices were provided by administrative staff.
