Summary
The Bureau of Sugar Experiment Stations was founded in 1901 following the passing of the Sugar Experiment Stations Act in December of the previous year Bureau headquarters are in Brisbane with five experiment stations located along the Queensland coast, at Ayr, Bundaberg, Mackay, Mennga and Tully, there is also a pathology farm at Eight Mile Plains near Brisbane.
Records are principally held in the Brisbane office in office files and in the Bureau's private library that is available to approved researchers. Records include the following: Annual reports. 1901-present, printed, bound, the reports reflect the wide range of technological research in which the Bureau has been involved. Other primary source material. Includes minutes of meetings, correspondence, a wide variety of reports, manuscripts, statistical and scientific data relating to technical work and Bureau administration and general business records, dating from 1901. A large quantity of material relating to developments in sugar technology in Australia and elsewhere, including a considerable volume of reports, scientific papers etc. from international conferences. Publications include: Canegrowers' Quarterly Review, Vol. 1, no. 1, July, 1933-present.
