Summary

The Q.C.W.A. was founded in August 1922, head office is in Brisbane and there are branch associations throughout the state One of the principal responsibilities of the organization is to maintain women's hostels and children's homes for the use of country people The Brisbane headquarters holds a large collection of records of the Association, and these are maintained by a voluntary archivist. Primary source material includes:

Minutes of executive meetings. Old Southern and Central Divisions, 1922-1944, from 1944 all division headquarters have retained their own records. Minutes of meetings, reports and general records of the Northern Division 1922-1944 formerly held in Brisbane, have been destroyed.

State annual reports. 1922-present.

Registers of membership. All branches, 1922-present, almost complete.

Minutes of state annual and council meetings and state conferences. 1923-present, complete except for the war years 1939-1945 when no meetings were held. Some holdings have been tape recorded.

A large collection of records. Including correspondence, business files, insurance documents, deeds, leases, records of overseas conferences and important transactions, dating from 1922.

Records of defunct branches. Including correspondence, business and financial records, plans etc., from 1922.

In recent years a number of local histories have been compiled of state branches that have completed fifty years of service These are held by the archivist. Printed material includes the Q.C.W.A. Journal, 1930-present, bound. A history of the Q.C.W.A. in Queensland by Evelyn Mclntyre, 50 Years, Brisbane, 1972, and North Queensland Pioneers, by Jane Black, Charters Towers, [1931]. The state office also has a collection of photographs including views of Q.W.C.A. buildings and hostels, from 1922. The head office of the Q.C.W.A. advised that all regional offices should hold some records of the Association, the following details were provided by several branches in the survey area in response to a circular letter
