Party: Townsville. The Cathedral School of St Anne and St James, 145 Ross River Road, Townsville, 4812

Summary

The Cathedral School, until 1979, St Anne's School for Girls, was founded by the Anglican Diocese of North Queensland, and was opened and dedicated by Bishop J.O. Feetham on 21st July 1917. The original school was located in the inner city, close by the Anglican Cathedral, and was run by the Sisters of the Society of the Sacred Advent; in recent years the Sisters have been completely replaced by lay teachers, and in 1956 the school transferred to its present site in Aitkenvale. In 1980 the School began admitting male students at all levels, and the current school title was adopted. Quite a large collection of school records is held, including a small quantity of records of St Mary's School, Herberton founded in 1918, and now defunct, and also records of the Anglican Church Schools League, which was founded in 1925.
