Summary
The first resident clergyman arrived in Townsville in 1870, however services had been conducted in the settlement since 1865, by the local Police Magistrate and the visiting minister from Bowen. The Diocese of North Queensland was founded in 1878, with the first Bishop of North Queensland, George Henry Stanton, being consecrated in June that year. Apart from Townsville records, the Cathedral collection includes some records of St Georges Palm Island, St John's Cairns, and records of Croydon, Georgetown and Goldsmith's Creek.
