Summary
The Archives house an extensive collection of records relating to the Methodist Church, and from June 1977, of the Uniting Church throughout Queensland; records date from the 19th century. The collection is roughly organized and not indexed, and only a summary coverage is possible here. Primary source material includes official documents, minutes of meetings, miscellaneous correspondence and papers, registers and business records. The bulk of holdings is made up of printed material such as local Church histories, commemorative publications, Church periodicals, newsletters and brochures. Known holdings relating to regional centres include a considerable quantity of material from Charters Towers and Rockhampton, and lesser holdings from Cairns and Townsville. Intending researchers should write in advance to the Archivist, Mr S. Eddowes, 18 Eddowes Street, Kedron, Brisbane, for permission to use the Archives and to make study arrangements. The Archives may be opened when required, Monday-Friday, 9.00am-5.00pm. Study facilities are available, but not photocopying equipment. Normally records may not be removed from the building, however exceptions may be made to allow for photocopying.
