Gentle breeze and clear weather. At 4 pm saw the Salvages bearing South, at 6 the Body of the Island bore S1/2W Distt about 5 leagues. Found the Variation of the Compass by an Azimuth to be 17° 50' West. At 10 the Isles of Salvages bore WBS1/2S distt 2 leagues. I make those Islands to lie in Latd 30° 11' S and S 16° E, 58 Leagues from Fonchall Madeira.
