Sunday 1st In the PM had a Moderate breeze at East which in the night Veer'd to the NE and was attended with hazey rainy weather. I have before made mention of our quiting the New Zeland — with an intention to steer to the westward which we accordingly did takeing my our departure from Cape Fare-well in the Latitude of 40°..30' So and Longitude 185°..58' Wt from Greenwich, which bore from us at 5 P.M. West 18° north distance 12 Miles. After this we steer'd NW and WNW in order to give it a good berth until 8 o,Clock AM at which time we steered West having the Advantage of a fresh Gale at NBE   At Noon our Latitude by account was 40°..12' So Longitude made from Cape Fare-well 1°..11' West —
