28 December 1770 Friday 28th Winds variable between the North and West. At 6 in the evening Anchor'd in 13 fathom water Edam bearing East distant 11/2 Mile - At day light in the Morning weighd a gain and kept plying to windward between Edam and Duffins Island but [gained] very little owing to the Variableness of the winds.
