The hero of Macedon ran o'er the world;

Yet nothing but death could he give.

'Twas George's command, and the sail was un-

furl'd,

And Cook taught mankind how to live.

And the Genius, & c.

He came, and he saw, not to conquer, but save;

The Caesar of Britain was he;

Who scorn'd the ambition of making a slave

While Britons themselves are so free.

Now the Genius of Britain forbids us to grieve,

Since Cook, ever honor'd, immortal shall live.
