Beachy Head

Gallery
Beachy Head is a chalk cliff promontory, rising a hundred and sixty meters above sea level, on the coast of East Sussex, between Hastings and Brighton.

Details
Because of the cliffs Beachy Head was called the Seven Cliffs by eighteenth-century seamen.

It was off Beachy Head that the French fleet defeated a combined English and Dutch fleet in 1690. A lighthouse with a revolving light eighty-six meters above the high water mark was erected on the second cliff to the west of the Head in 1828.
