Beachy Head |

| Beachy Head is a chalk cliff promontory, rising a hundred and sixty meters above sea level, on the coast of East Sussex, between Hastings and Brighton. |

Because of the cliffs Beachy Head was called the Seven Cliffs by eighteenth-century seamen. It was off Beachy Head that the French fleet defeated a combined English and Dutch fleet in 1690. A lighthouse with a revolving light eighty-six meters above the high water mark was erected on the second cliff to the west of the Head in 1828. |
