Shipwright |
  |
A shipwright was a workman skilled in building ships. From the early seventeenth century ship-building was a specialist trade with its own guild, the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights, founded in 1612. Shipwrights generally learnt the trade through a lengthy apprenticeship to a master shipwright. |
