Cooper

Coopers who made casks for dry goods such as flour and grain were known as 'dry coopers', while those who specialised in making barrels or casks for liquids were known as 'wet coopers'. A 'white cooper' was a craftsman who made various kinds of pails and tubs.

Coopers aboard ship tended to be skilled in the manufacture of casks for dry and wet goods.
