Latitude is the name given to a measurement of an angular distance between an imaginary line drawn around the earth parallel to the equator. |
Details | |
Latitude is measured in degrees, minutes and seconds on a scale of 0 degrees at the equator to 90 degrees at either the north or south poles. Thus when Cook spoke in journal of entering the high latitudes this meant he was heading in a southerly direction towards the continent of Antartica. | |
