Weir was Master's mate aboard the Endeavour when it set out from Plymouth. He was the first of 38 men who died on the voyage. |

Weir gave his place of origin as Fife, Scotland when he joined the crew of HMS Endeavour as Master's mate on 27 May 1768. He was then aged 35. Weir was accidentally drowned when he became entangled in a buoy rope in the Funchal Road, off Madeira, on 14 September 1768. | |
