The Strait of Magellan divides continental South America from Tierra del Fuego. It provides a relatively safe passage for vessels sailing between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

Details
The Strait of Magellan is about 360 kilometres long and varies in width from between 3 to 32 kilometres. It was named after Ferdinand Magellan, commander of the first European voyage through the waterway.
