Wednesday 3rd Winds at WSW and SW   PM a fresh breeze and squally - the remainder Moderate with frequent squalls attended with rain. In the evening shorten'd sail and at Midnight Tackd and made a trip to the NW untill 2 AM then wore and stood to the Southward    At Day light made sail and edge'd away in order to make the land, at 10 saw it bearing NE, and appear'd to be high land, At Noon it extended from North to ENE distant by estimation 8 or 10 Leagues Our Latitude by observation was 36° 2' So ^and the North Cape Maria Van diemen bore N 2° 30' West, Distt 33 Leagues - A high rowling swell from the S.W.
