FISH-GIG

FISH-GIG, (foesne, Fr.) an instrument used to strike fish at sea, particularly dolphins. It consists of a staff three or four barbed prongs, and a line fastened to the end, on which the prongs are fixed: to the other end is fitted a piece of lead, which serves to give additional force to the stroke when the weapon flies, and to turn the points upward after the fish is penetrated.
