PADDLE

PADDLE, (pagaie, Fr. pattal, Welsh) a sort of oar tiled by the savages of Africa and America to navigate their canoes. It is much shorter and broader in the blade than the oars of a boat, and is equally employed in rowing and steering. See the article CANOE.
