RAKE to RATESRAKERAKE, the projection of the upper parts of a ship at the heighth of the item, (claucement, Fr.) and stern, (queue, Fr.) beyond the extremities of the keel. Thus if a plummet be hung from the top of a ship's stern, so as to be level with the continuation of the keel, the distance between the after end of the keel and the plummet will be the length of the rake abaft, or the rake of the stern.
