Title: | Temple at Opoa |
Type: | Watercolour |
Description: | Dated to the 1830s. Said by Rex Nan Kivell to be one of a collection of 30 large watercolours relative to the South Seas used on lecture tours by the Rev. John Williams and his ministers when raising funds for the London Missionary Society. While the marae depicted is said to be at Opoa, it is very likely the imposing marae dedicated to Oro at Mahaiatea that was built by Tevahitua and Purea to further cause of their son, Teri'irere. |
